Setting Up Your E-mail in Microsoft Outlook Express

This tutorial shows you how to set up Microsoft Outlook Express to work with your e-mail account.

This tutorial uses Microsoft Outlook Express, but these settings are similar in other versions of Microsoft Outlook Express. You can set up other versions of Microsoft Outlook Express by using the settings in this tutorial.

  1. In Microsoft Outlook Express, select Tools > Accounts.

  2. Selet the Mail tab and then click "Add" then select Mail

  3. Enter the name you wish people to see you as in emails e.g Mr Smith or John. Then click next.

  4. Enter Your email address. e.g. john@domain-name.co.uk

  5. On the Internet Connection Wizaed window, enter your information as follows:
    • Select incoming mail server as imap
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP) - Enter mail.domain-name.co.uk for your incoming mail server.
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP) - Enter mail.domain-name.co.uk for your outgoing mail server.
    • Please be aware some ISP (internet services providers) will insist on using their outgoing mail server and you would need to enter details from them.
  6. Click "Next"

  7. Then enter your account name. This is your full email address which is case sensitive then enter your password and check the remeber password box so you don't have to type it each time you check for email.
  8. Then Click the Next Button.

  9. And then to finish Click Finish>

  10. Then select the Mail tab click under the Account heading the account you have just created (should turn blue) and then click Properties.

  11. Select the Servers tab, tick the box "My server requires authentication" and then the OK button. email outlook express imap
  12. Then click close to finish the email account setup.
